My rod sections are stuck together! How on earth do I get them apart?

Rod sections can get stuck due to a variety of reasons, but the most common is due to the rod cycling through different temperatures, and thus creating an almost unbreakable seal from the expansion of the male end, or contraction of the female end of the ferrule.

Luckily, there are a few tricks that make this a relatively simple and painless process to remedy.

 1. Cooling down the Ferrule connection

 - This can be done by simply leaving the rod outside overnight if you live in a cool climate, or by soaking a paper towel in water, and leaving it in the freezer for a few minutes. Once cold it can be wrapped around the stuck section to cool things down.

 2. Getting a better grip and ensuring you are pulling straight
 - This can be done using rubber pads or gloves, and doing the “knee trick”.
The knee trick involves taking the rod behind your back and placing it behind your knees. Then, with your hands holding the rod, using your knees & leg muscles to push your hands (and the rod) apart. This ensures you won’t be bending the blank and risking a broken section.
