John Salamon, SK:
John has always had a keen interest in the outdoors – and especially angling. This passion has led him not unpredictably, to a career as a
fisheries biologist. Although no stranger to bait and hardware fishing, John’s primary focus through the last 25 years has been flyfishing.
His work and ramblings have taken him angling to many areas through western Canada, but his most favourite haunts are the plentiful and
productive stillwaters of his native Saskatchewan.

Tiana Nordstrom, Alberta:
Originally from the West Coast, Tiana grew up on the ocean, fishing for salmon and learned to fly fish on the interior lakes and rivers of B.C. with her family. Always lover of the outdoors, she has been fly fishing for 20 years. Tiana is an accomplished fly tier and an executive board member of the Hook and Hackle club. After moving to Alberta 10 years ago, the multitude of lakes sparked a love for early season pike and spring chironomid fishing. However, her passion lies in the perfect dry fly presentation to eager trout on the streams located in the foothills of Southern Alberta's Rocky Mountains. Currently living in Calgary, she can sometimes be found practicing her Spey casting on the Bow River.

Over the past ten years, he has spent as much of the open water season as possible chasing everything from trout to carp in Saskatchewan waters. Although, still waters provide much of the fishing opportunity in the province, Chance’s time is spent on both moving water and lakes. His passion lies for tempting trout out of stocked lakes and small streams across the province.

Chris Puchniak, Cloverdale BC:
Chris was first introduced to flyfishing when his father brought him home a fly tying kit when he was in elementary school (some 35 years ago), and like many anglers. Chris was introduced to competitive fly fishing, and once he discovered the immense social and team aspect to the sport, he completely immersed himself in it. With a desire to ever improve, he also discovered that competitive angling brought to him the aspect of fly fishing that he appreciated most – the infinite volume of knowledge that one can possibly learn.

Fossil Hao, BC:
Fly Fishing has absolutely nothing to do with his job. Perhaps that’s why he loves it so much. Fossil grew up in China, active with high intensity sports since he was very young. After coming to Canada, fly fishing immediately appealed to him. Maybe it was the excellent British Columbia scenery that motivated Fossil to pick up and continue the fishing hobby. Or maybe it was the feeling one gets during the fishing process: the silence, the lack of stress, the steady breathing of the water and surrounding nature…the peacefulness. Either way, Fossil was mesmerized by fishing and proceeded to self learn all that there was to know about fishing and fly fishing during his eleven years in Canada. In his free time, he ties his own customized flies and surfs the web to further educate himself in fishing. Today, he’s still enjoying fishing in beautiful British Columbia, often disappearing early in the morning every weekend and not returning until nightfall.

Nathan Pauls, Lethbridge, Alberta:
Nathan has fishing since he was old enough to hold a rod, starting out with pike fishing on local lakes as a child and working his way through to more challenging fish as a teenager. He enjoys all sorts of fishing, from chasing perch in small lakes to salmon and halibut fishing off the British Columbia coast. Being a walleye tournament angler, Nathan fishes year around, spending spring through fall on his boat throughout southern Alberta and fly-fishing the rivers flowing down the eastern slopes of the Rockies. As well he fishes the rivers for goldeye, whitefish and walleye. In the winter he ice fishes for perch and walleye and find time for trips to the mountains for winter stream fly-fishing.

Steven Erickson, Manitoba:
Steven grew up in Victoria and learned to fish on the Island with his Dad. He looked up the Manitoba Fly Fishers Association, and joined in April 1999. I quickly became re-addicted and have been fishing as much as possible throughout Manitoba and elsewhere ever since. The things Steven is proud of in fishing are: catching many different species on the fly, still water fishing, Atlantic salmon on a dry fly on the Margaree River in Cape Breton, and catching golden trout in Alberta. His current fishing goals: Catch a master angler pike (42 inches or longer), catch 10 different species of Master Angler (Manitoba Tourism designated trophy size) in one season and catch Pacific Salmon on the fly.

Bruce TenHoeve, BC:
I grew up on the beaches of northern Vancouver Island fishing the salt for anything that moved from Bullheads to Salmon. Having Barry M Thornton as school Principal and teacher influenced my desire to flyfish for pursuit of game fish on both salt and fresh water. Plying the Oyster river for Pinks and Coho, buck-tailing for Coho from our boat. I have been an avid flyfisher for the better part of 35 yrs,and I’m still learning. My favorites are small stream fishing and smaller river fishing for Rainbow trout, and the Fraser River nad Harrison back waters for Cutthroat. Still water fishing at ice off is a great way to shake off the “shack nastie’s”),not that we have any frozen water on the Coast like the rest of B.C. The last 6 yrs I have begun learning the two-hander Spey Rod,this has changed how I fish on the small rivers and backwaters with the Wind Warrior 1134, and chasing Coho with the Wind Warrior 1106. Life is good.

Luke Hoffman USA:
Luke was born in Racine, WI and he has been fishing most of my 32 years. His father got him
into fishing as a young boy and he still enjoys fishing with him as much as he can. Growing
up fishing inland lakes in Northern WI for Walleye, Pike, Bass and Panfish Luck’s father taught
him what he knew and he was hooked! As Luke got older his grandfather, who has been fishing
the Great Lakes since Salmon were introduced, got him into Trout and Salmon fishing. "I mainly
fish Lake Michigan now for Trout and Salmon. I guess people could say he is addicted" He also
enjoys all types of fishing whether it’s on the ice, boat or from shore. He works as a Contractor
for Best Buy and Sears and he is also Prostaff for Makingtackle.com. When he is not doing that,
you better believe he is fishing! Luck enjoys learning new techniques and using new products as well as teaching what he knows. With fishing he believes no one knows it all and knows one
knows too little.

Adam Caughey, Nova Scotia:
Adam Caughey has been fishing ever since he was a young boy. It all began by competing with friends and family for the biggest fish in Nova Scotia, and developed into an everyday passion. He showed promise as a boy, winning the first tournament he entered, and now he takes part in many different tournaments.
Adam likes catching a variety of different species of fish including brown trout, speckled trout, rainbow trout, lake trout,
small mouth bass, stripers (sea bass), and pickerel. Adam can be spotted mostly out in a boat, fishing close to the shore looking for that hard hitting trophy fish to bend his rod and run with the line. To him the open water was his destiny and a fishing rod was meant to be in his hand. The biggest fish he has landed was a blue shark caught in eastern passage in Nova Scotia. Adam enjoys taking others out and teaching them his techniques to catching fish. He guides them though the process giving them tips and lending them gear which has brought him luck.

Cornelius, Ontario:
Cornelius (an artist, writer, editor, and professional photographer) was born in Toronto, Ontario but spent many of his childhood years in the Netherlands—often he watched his great grandfather wield an eighteen foot bamboo float rod pursuing coarse fish in canals cutting through a landscape that has remained unchanged since the 17th century. Though a fourth generation float fisherman, he has devoted the last thirty years to the pursuit of salmonids on the fly. As an avid and accomplished fly-tier he is always in search of that intrepid fish who will take an offering of a new pattern. He has fished the great salmon rivers of the East Coast, the large rivers of NY, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan states and obsessively pursues runs of wild steelhead in the expansive watersheds of Ontario. Currently Cornelius is one of many anglers introducing the art of swinging intruders to Ontario anglers and colleagues who share his inquisitive/creative passions.
